Chartered on October 29th, 1972, Knights of Columbus Council 6417 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia was named after Father Adrian Butts who served as Saint Joseph's Parish priest from 1946 to 1963. In 1981 Council 6417 created its present Chambers by refurbishing the coal bin in Saint Joseph`s Parish Centre. Having paid off the $27,000 mortgage on Saint Joseph`s Parish Centre, Council 6417 remains instrumental in maintaining church buildings as well as providing funds and volunteers for charitable projects. Council 6417 currently has over 80 members. 
 
Council 6417:
  • Furnished the non-denominational chapel in the South Shore Regional Hospital;
  • Helped purchase a heart machine for the South Shore Regional Hospital with money raised through the Flying Fathers;
  • Helped purchase a commercial dishwasher, stove and water heater for Saint Joseph's Parish Centre;
  • Sponsors local Catholic youth attendance at Steubenville Atlantic.
  • Raised funds for refurbishing the stained glass window and basement windows at Saint Joseph's;
  • Annually supports vocations to the Catholic priesthood and religious life;
  • Provides an annual bursary for children and grandchildren of Knights;
  • Presents Parish faith formation programs;
  • Assists with Parish fund raisers and picnics;
  • Participates in 40 Days for Life prayer vigil;
  • 4th Degree members in the Monsignor William Wamboldt Assembly 3139 serve as colour guards when requested;
  • Hosted three State Conventions 1977, 1989 and 1997.
  • Supports a foster child through Chalice.

Council Meetings
Regular meetings are held the third Monday of each month (September to June) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Council Chambers at Saint Joseph's Parish Centre next to the church on 123 Pleasant Street, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. We use the Parish Centre's parking lot and back entrance on Queen Street.
