Persecuted Christians Are Not in U.N. Refugee Camps

In welcoming Saint Joseph's first sponsored Syrian family a question that Knights are being asked is where are the persecuted Christians and Yazidis fleeing to? We can definitively answer that they are not in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) refugee camps where Canada is currently screening potential migrants. Horrifically the U.N. camps are themselves hotbeds of Islamic terrorism aimed at eliminating Christian and Yazidis refugees. The conspired outcome is one where only Muslims are left on the official emigration lists.

To allay the confusion surrounding the Syrian Refugee Program it is important to note that although Muslim families arriving in U.N camps are not being genocidally exterminated like the Christians and Yazidis many are suffering catastrophic war inflicted injury. The Church has been open to all families in need. With previous commitments made to accept families on the UN lists and screened Muslim refugees already in the que the Church is following through in good faith. A refugee outreach program upholding the dignity of Muslims as children of God does not imply the Church condones the heresies of Islam that breed intolerance. Tenets of Islam that proclaim war, subjugation and death to "disbelievers" are existentially incompatible with the Gospel's message of love for one's neighbour including one's enemies. Aware of the dilemma imposed by the current Syrian Refugee Program the Knights of Columbus in fairest assessment is recommending governments and sponsors "take immediate action to prioritize the resettlement of vulnerable minorities including Christians and end sole reliance on UNHCR facilities."

We are living in a turbulent and chaotic age. Despite the human instinct to perpetuate cycles of vengeance, Catholics filled with the Holy Spirit are called to lead by example and extend justice through the compassionate hand of mercy. Justice so dispensed is poetic. Territories across the Middle East that have been ethnically cleansed will be peacefully resettled by peoples from all faiths. Christians and Yazidis who are staying close to home will reclaim their ancestral homes... “so the last shall be first, and the first last.” The Knights of Columbus courageously supports the Church in her mission to joyously bring Christ's Gospel of love, pardon, faith and hope, and with it the "People of the Book" back to these sad and battered lands..

The good man takes pity and lends,
he conducts his affairs with honour.
The just man will never waiver;
he will be remembered forever.

He has no fear of evil news;
with a firm heart he trusts in the Lord,
With a steadfast heart he will not fear;
he will see the downfall of his foes.

Open-handed he gives to the poor;
his justice stands firm forever.
His head will be raised in glory.

The wicked man sees and is angry,
grinds his teeth and fades away;
the desire of the wicked leads to doom.

--- Psalm 112
